NS 1501, disguised as BR 27003 at Venlo on 24 October 1998. In 1970, NS -in search for traction power- bought seven locos from British Rail, where they had become surplus after the closure of the Woodhead-route, that was becoming a 1.500 V= island in a 25 kV, 50Hz network. The Dutch used one loco for spare parts and pressed the others as 1501-1506 into service. Until 1986 the took the brunt and the honour of the ICs Den Haag<->Venlo. Stichting KLOK rescued 1501/27003. NedTrain Amsterdam Zaanstraat workshop open day The locomotives of class 1500 were bought second-hand by NS from British Rail, where the used to operate on the Woodhead line (1500V DC). One is preserved by KLOK/Werkgroep 1501 in operational condition. In 2008 maintenance is due so it will disappear from the main network for some time. NS - The Netherlands "Multi Event" in Blerick near Venlo provided a rare opportunity to view museum trains that are normally hidden inside depots. In 1969 NS bought a small class of locomotives (BR27000) from the UK. These operated with light passenger trains until 1986. Locomotive 1501 was taken over by Werkgroep Loc 1501 and operated several special trains until 2007. It is now awaiting restoration. Blerick, 09-06-2018 Digital photo by Marco van Uden |
