1994 - 1995, another L7 in Meiningen
As a result of the crash in august 1994, a new period in the RAW was needed, and an L7 was decided during which one, as an addition to jobs necessitated by the crash itself (frame checking and repair, coal tank and water tank reconstruction, reconstruction of the cab), also part of the boiler was rebuilt using welded constuction (instead of riveted construction, as originally designed).
Looks like the cost of the whole job was in the area of 300'000 to 350'000 DEM .
But, although built in 1931 and, then, 64 years old (!), the 99 7222, the only true german "Einheitslokomotive" on meter gauge left, is now rebuilt "as new" and can expect several other dozen years of service...
August 21st 1994
Shortly after an L7 in Meiningen were she got brand new all-welded cylinders, allowing her to start for a new turn, the crash of August 21st 1994 in Thumkuhlental demolished her again...
But "the Harz" has too big needs for steam traction equipment to scrap such a wrecked steam locomotive, specially one with such an historical background...
99 7222 is the "mother" of all the "standard" post-war 2.10.2T built by "Babelsberg" specially for the Harz...
