Simferopol-Yalta is the world's longest - 80 km - and European only mountain trolleybus system. It was built in 1959-1961 to connect Simferopol, the capital of Crimea, with two major recreation cities on the coast - Alushta and Yalta.
The first part of the system - suburbian route #1 from Railway Station of Simferopol to Mariano - was launched on October 7 1959 with 9 MTB-82D on route (length 8.5 km).
The intercity line from Simferopol to Alushta (the town on the coast) was launched Nov. 6, 1959 with trolleybuses Skoda 8Tr. On April 28, 1961 the city trolleybus system in Yalta was started on the city route #1 (length 4.5 km). In July 1961 the 33km-intercity line between Alushta and Yalta was opened.
At present, the system has 3 depots and served by about 400 trolleybuses. The system uses Skoda 9Tr, Skoda 14Tr and YuMZ T2.09 on intercity lines, while city systems are operated by Skoda 9Tr, Skoda 14Tr, and in Simferopol by Skoda 15Tr, ZiU-6205, and YuMZ T1.

Linia 52 Jałta-Symferopol. 28.09.2005.
