A TCDD Class 56100 awaiting her fate at the Cetinkaya depot on the morning of January 8, 2001. These engines were some of the last steamers to be retired by the TCDD, after the electrification of the Istanbul-Ankara main in the early 90's shifted diesels to the area thus rendering the Skoda built 56100's surplus.

TCDD: Somewhere in 1976, this steam engine with axle sequence 1E and a typical 'bathtub-shaped' tender is arriving at Basmane.
Unfortunately I don't know any type or serial number, I did'nt mind these very much at the age of 11...

Beginning of 1977: this is one of the steam engines that either did shunting work at Basmane
but also pulled the short local trains to Bornova.

TCDD Halkali: TCDD 45510, a Batignolles 1Dh2, being prepared for departure at the Halkali Locomotive Depot. Summer, 1975. Behind, another 45.5.
Halkali is at the western edge of Istanbul where trains swapped steam lokomotives for electric lokos until the late 70's, the catenary being visible above the tender of the second engine to the right.

TCDD Railway Museum next to Ankara Railway station. Its an open air muesum with about 10 steam engines, one passengercoach and two freight lorries.
