17 June 2001, Malmö, Sweden After what the tour guide told us boat passengers I thought this are some undergound trains manufactured in the Malmö harbour area. In the meantime I have learned from Peter Faber "peter.faber@telia.com" that the trains are X-1 EMU-2: s from Stockholm's local trains operator, X-1 being an older cousin to the x-10/11 "Pågatåg", the local/regional trains in Malmö and other places. The X-1: s have run in heavy service since around 1970, and recently cracks have been found in the bogie frames. The trains are now repaired in every available train workshop in Sweden, for example at Kockums in Malmö, formerly a famous ship manufacturer. It is there that I spotted these trains. The situation is affecting the traffic in Stockholm area, and SL, the traffic authority in the area, is looking to quickly buy second-hand equipment to handle the situation, and it is possible that some older DB 420 EMU: s will serve in Stockholm.

EMU X1 3044 just after crossing the railway bridge at Stäket,
northwest of Stockholm, March 1997.
It has just left the single track bridge
and entered the dual track, which ends
here (if you come from Stockholm).
