In SJ times, "Dm3" was strictly speaking only the designation for the middle unit of the triple locomotive which it formed together with two class Dm end units (Dm + Dm3 + Dm), although "Dm3" was inofficially often used for the entire triple composition. When the Malmbanan was taken over by LKAB/MTAB, the "Dm3" designation was officially applied to the entire triple composition.
