Ticket for the Moscow railway museum at Rizhsky vokzal. Fare is 50 roubles for Russians and 100 roubles for foreigners. At the time of visiting this museum contained a large open air collection of railway vehicles as well as an exhibition room inside the train station (the later one was closed because of remont during my visit) and was open daily from 10AM to 4PM except Mondays and Tuesdays. Note that you can also ride a steam train on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at noon. After a guided tour through the museum the steam train is running on the line to Riga as far as a station somewhere near Sokol. 13.2.2008 Martin P. |

RZD receipt of sleeping car reservation Irkutsk - Moskva for train 1 (Vladivostok - Moskva). If you buy such reservations in Russia, you get the reservation itself and this receipt. One of the two documents is kept by the train personal, the other one is returned to the passenger. On this train I got the receipt. 27.2.2008 Martin P. |
RZD receipt of sleeping car reservation Moskva - Chop for train 15 (Moskva - Uzhgorod), issued at Irkutsk. I wanted to get a reservation for the through car to Zilina, but according to the lady at the service center this was already sold out. So I bought a reservation on one of the Uzhgorod bound cars as far as Chop, where you can change to seating cars across the border. Unfortunately you have to do this in the middle of the night. Also note, that this reservation is nearly twice as expensive as one for the through car to Zilina. According to the train personal this through car is often completely booked by Russian travel agencies, which cancel their reservations sometimes very shortly before departure. In fact the through car to Zilina was empty with many places available, when I arrived at the train station. Donīt expect the train personal to help you and let you in this car in such a situation, they all just want money, money, money. So I travelled as booked on the Uzhgorod car. Service was very poor on this car, there was no heating during the day and sauna-style heating during the night, which made sleeping at night impossible and required opening of the windows on the corridor, while the car attendend disappeared somewhere on the train. If you have to travel on this train, try to get on the through cars to Hungary or Slovakia, you definitely want to avoid the cars to Uzhgorod. 27.2.2008 Martin P. |

If the few through cars and trains departing at Tomsk donīt fit into your travel plans, you have to change trains at Taiga. 19.2.2008 Martin P. |
