ZS - Serbia Although Eivel diesel locomotive My 1125 should have operated by itself in Serbia, the permission was withdrawn just before departure. So Serbian locomotives hauled the Balkan-Express to Kosovo through Serbia. From Kraljevo, where the photo was taken, ZS 661-121 was the "lucky" one. ZS - Serbia Mechanical signalling is quite rare in today's Serbia. But in Raska between Kraljevo and the border with Kosovo they are still in use. Here ZS 661-121 passes the signals with the Balkan-Express on its way to Kosovo. Raska, 23-08-2009 Digital photo by Marco van Uden |

ZS - Serbia A rock cutting, a small bridge, a nice ancient chapel and a mechanical signal. What a great place for a photo stop! Stara Pavlica, 23-08-2009 Digital photo by Marco van Uden |
ZS - Serbia The Balkan-Express was not allowed to cross the "internal" border between Serbian and Albanian territory in Kosovo. Therefore it was left at Zvecan with passengers crossing this border by bus. On the way home our train was waiting for us, again or still with Serbian locomotive 661-121. ZS - Serbia Serbian electric locomotive 661-124 is shunting in Kraljevo. The station is currently being upgraded and electrified. Kraljevo, 23-08-2009 Digital photo by Marco van Uden |
ZS - Serbia Serbian electric locomotive 661-124 with a regular train to Zvecan in Kosovo. Officially Lesak is the border station (passports are checked here) but the Serbian railways operate deep into the "Serbian" part of Kosovo, up to Zvecan. Lesak, 25-08-2009 Digital photo by Marco van Uden |
