Front view of the EDK 20 rail crane. The picture, which was made on 22.12.2002 in Constanta
yard, shows the crane in its travelling position. The boom and hook are resting on a Ks type
platform car. Produced between 1953 and 1986, Ks type platform cars where designed as
transport cars for long materials like logs, pipes, rails, and are designed to travel at speeds
reaching 100 km/h. They are 13 meters long and can carry loads up to 27 tons.

CFR diesel crane in Constanta yard.
The EDK 80 railroad crane is able to lift loads of up to 20 tons. The crane weights 58 tons
and is part of a complete intervention train. The intervention train consists of two 4-axeled
cars used to transport the work crew and other tools used to operate the crane. The picture
shows the crane in its transport position, with the boom and hook resting on a 2-axeled type
KS platform car. The photo was took on 22 December 2002.

Railway crane type EKD 80 in Sfintu Gheorghe freight station.
The EDK 80 railway crane is capable of lifting load of up to 20 tons at a maximum radius of 12 meters. The crane weights 58 tons and is able to travel at speeds reaching up to 100 km/h. This crane type is used to lift various loads that don't require a high lifting force or a big working radius. The crane is also used in the various electrification works, where it's considered as the main part from a full intervention train. The picture shows a strange use for this crane. It was actually photographed in working position while loading some freight containers on standard railway platforms.

CFR type EDK 1000/2 rail crane in Constanta yard.
EDK 1000 type cranes are used for heavy loads lifting. They have a lifting force of 125 tons
and are used in rapid intervention trains. A full train consists of the crane and 7 other cars.
There is a special 4-axeled platform car designed to carry the two counterweights and to support
the boom and hook. Each counterweight has 26 tons and the total counterweight load is 58 tons.
An unusual feature is that the crane and boom supporting car can both travel selfproppeled at
speeds up to 6 km/h. To achieve this, the platform car has two special gearings (one on each bogie) coupled
to an electric motor.
