Berkeshire type locomotive number 142.008 in Sibiu Steam Locomotive Museum.
The 142 series locomotives where manufactured in Romania after the Austrian 214 series project.
The locos where designed to haul rapid passenger trains on long distances and in heavy traffic
areas. Between 1937 and 1940, a total number of 79 units where built in the two major romanian
locomotive building factories: Malaxa (36 units) and Resita (the rest). It was the fastest loco
from CFR fleet. Ic could reach a speed of 140 km/h, although the plate indicated 110 km/h.
75 locomotives where scrapped so today there are left only 4 locos of this type (142.008 in Sibiu
Depot, 142.072 in Resita Museum, 142.044 active in Arad Depot and 142.063 which was sold in Austria).

Originally designed in Austria, this majestic 2-8-4 locomotive was further developed and built in Romania by Malaxa Works (now FAUR). Similar locomotives are still operational, pulling special tourist trains.
