Metrorex S.A.
Station: Parc Bazilescu
On 1st of July, a new section of the Bucharest metro (line M4) was open: 1 Mai - Jiului - Parc Bazilescu. This section was open after... 23 years (!). The "Parc Bazilescu" station was not in the initial project. The tunnel was dig until the "future" station "Laromet", but the station wasn't executed, so they chosen to build a station at Parc Bazilescu. The tunnels and the "Jiului" station were already done in 1989, but the works were abandoned (like all major works in Romania) after the so-called Revolution and the tunnels were flooded. Removing the wather took about 6 years.
The station has been "put" between the 2 paralell circullar tunnels. Also, the station can bearely hold a 6-car train (the first and the last door will be found on a narrow "service platform".
The new section has no switches... so, in Jiului and 1 Mai stations, the trains can run in both direction an the same track. This will cause problems to the passengers, because the information systems are NOT yet installed in the stations.
The opening of this new section was also a good reason for some photos in the subway. Usually, taking pictures inside the Bucharest metro is legally prohibited and can be done only with a special written pass and together with a Metrorex employee because our subway is considered a strategic objective.
