CFR 79-0101-0 DMU arriving in Sfintu Gheorghe station.
This type of DMU was built in 1969 by Waggon bau Gorlitz works from Germany. The DMU's where
used by DB, where they werw registered as class 772/972. In 1999 CFR decided to buy some second hand
units from DB, which where overhauled at MARUB works, in 2000. The DMU's are now working on
the lines from Brasov area, but thaey aren't yet listed in the official traintable.
The main technical data are:
Lenght: 13 meters
Width: 3 meters
Height: 3,5 meters
Places: 40
Weight: 21 tons
Engine: 220 Hp type MAN 2886 UH (horizontal)
A strange fact is that all the vehicles where registerd in CFR class 79 which was fromerly destined
for the romanian built AD 2x19 and AD 20 railcars.

Unit 79-0104-4 has just arrived in Sfintu Gheorghe station with a personal train from Covasna.

CFR "new" DMU class 79. The ex-DR, ex-DB, "Ferkeltaxe" DMU's, after being refurbished at "Remarul 16 Februarie" from Cluj-Napoca, have found a nice and quit popular welcome from passengers. This picture is taken in the station of Oradea, after the DMU came from Baile Felix. Their place is insured on the Diesel lines around Oradea (my nice hometown), the biggest Diesel-only depot in Transylvania and probably in Romania. In Oradea there a six lines converging (of which four main-lines and five still got passenger traffic), all Diesel-powered. 11 May 2003

CFR "new" DMU class 79 interior. Looks OK for a 20 minutes trip to Baile Felix, but I hardly imagine someone feeling very comfortable in doing a 4 hour trip to Cluj-Napoca with this one, because the Romanian State Railways plan to use this class on all regional trains between Oradea and Cluj.

C.F.R. Calatori 79-0118-4; it was rented by S.C. Regional S.R.L., a company that operates on Satu Mare-Bixad, Ciumeghiu-Vascau, Bistrita-Bistrita Bargaului and Ilva Mica-Rodna Veche secondary lines.
