On the 20th August 2003 a truncated spur originally heading towards the goods (freight) shed can be seen. Although only two platform faces in the new station are signed there is clearly scope here for a third, plus, as can be seen in photograph cplagcd12 new signalling is in place for a track to this side of the new platforms. The current running lines into the "old" station can be seen on the left.

The two new platforms looking north towards the buffer stops and beyond these the old goods (freight) shed and original station building. A release crossover between the two tracks is in place. (20th August 2003)

Three new two aspect colour light signals, not yet in service on the 20th August 2003, have been built at the south end of the new platforms. The signal on the left is adjacent to the current running line out of the "old" station indicating that a third platform face in the "new" station may be brought into action once the old station is closed.

The Algarve Railway is being modernised and accordingly the station site at Lagos is being redeveloped. Two new plaforms have been built to the south of the current station and to the west of the current lines but will be served from the old station building by this pathway past the old goods (freight) shed.

Lagos Station is the western terminus for the Algarve line which runs all the way from Spain through Faro, Tunes, Portimao and other resort towns. This pleasant old style station was phtographed on the 14th September 2003.
