Brand new tilting train of the Portuguese Railways used for Alfa
Pendular services between Porto and Lisboa. These trains are stabled
at Contumil where the platforms were guarded but in the end the

The new (class 4000 ?) EMU based on the etr460 pendolino, of the
Portuguese Railways CP at Contumil station, north of Oporto. This station
has been its home for the past few days.
This unit is the only one CP has for the moment while they await three
more to begin operational service on the 30th of May. They will do some of
the Alfa service between Oporto and Lisbon, but they are still conditioned
because the work on the line is not yet finished.
The units are know as "Pendoluso" and are composed of six cars, one
of witch is a bar (or a restaurant), i couldn't really see.
Four of the cars are motorized, and the midlle ones (witch are not
motorized) have the two pantographs.
The tilting mechanism is from Fiat, the traction equipment by Siemens and
the body structure is built by AdTranz Portugal (former Sorefame).

A shot of the transmition shaft of the train.
There are rumors that this part colapses under heavy utilisation above
220km/h. There is a protection grid under the shaft (not seen on this
Picture) , because if the part breaks up, it can fall into the line and
make the train derrail.
