The open-air museum of "Maihaugen" in Lillehammer is a remarkable collection of old buildings from Norway. In 1997, the administration of the museum decided to add a little, rural railway station to the collection, and an old steam locomotive class 23b was transported from the engine shed at Kornsjö at the Swedish border. The picture is taken in Halden; 32 kilometres north of Kornsjö.
The transport went by an average speed of 30 kilometres per hour, which claimed a lot of patience since the distance from Kornsjö to Lillehammer is about 350 kilometres! It was managed by the "GM-group", a Norwegian railway club specialized in preserving old diesel locomotives. You can see a little bit of the former Danish State Railways class My 1106, which was bought by the GM-group earlier that year.

Norwegian_2-6-0_Loughborough_5.1974. UK heritage steam in the 1960s and 1970s. Early days on the preserved Great Central Railway (GCR), at Loughborough, in May 1974. Ex-Norwegian Railways 2-6-0 No.377 came to the GCR in March 1973 and hauled the first official train when service opened between Loughborough and Quorn. Named King Haakon VII the engine remained in use on the GCR until 1977 before a move to Bressingham Steam Museum in April 1981; it remains at Bressingham today. roger.griffiths@hotmail.com |
