25a_227_ham1.jpg (115766 bytes)

NSB steam locomotive 25a No. 227, built 1911 by Hamar Jernstøperi & Mek. Verksted. 42 units were built since 1909. No. 227 was used for shunting at Hamar until 1970. It weighs 25.9 t and has a maximum speed of 40 km/h. As I couldn't get enough distance to the locomotive, I took three photos and assembled them in Panoramamaker, so the wall behind the locomotive looks a little strange.

NSB 49c 470 "Dovregubben", built 1940, in service until 1962. The usual problem in railway museums: Big steam locomotive in a not much bigger house, I needed to put three photos together and compose this panorama to give this impression (and still some parts are cut off).

49c_470_njm1.jpg (162792 bytes)

NSB type 49c no. 470 "Dovregubben" built 1940 by Krupp AG Essen. 1'D2'h4+2'2', 1530 mm diameter of driving wheels, service weight 153.1 t, 90 km/h. These locomotives, developed for the Dovre line between Oslo and Trondheim, were Norway's most powerful steam locomotives, built 1935 to 1941. The first three (49a series) were made by Thune & Hamar, followed by an order to Krupp AG Essen for nine more (of which only two were delivered, seven were destroyed in a world war bombing before delivery) and two by Thune made by the same plans. Four more were never completed due to the war and the post-war decision to order diesel locomotives instead. In 1957 they ended regular service, replaced by diesel. The preserved No. 470 stands in a rather small shed which makes it difficult to take pictures of the whole locomotive, so here is a detail of the cylinder and wheels.
