During the last 25 years, service has been discontinued on several Norwegian branch lines. The Arendal branch, which connects the beautiful Skagerak coast with Nelaug on the Oslo-Stavanger line, was not supposed to be an exception. In the late nineties, however, catenaries were installed between Nelaug and Arendal, and this picture shows an Emu class 69 on a magnificent stone arch bridge about 10 kilometres south of Nelaug 22.07.2003. Emu class 69.640 awaits departure for Ski and Oslo in the little borough of Tomter, 37 kilometres southeast of the capital. Tomter is typical for countryside stations of Norway, built in the Swiss-inspired style which was frequently used in Norway in the last quarter of the 19th Century. Could someone give me a saw? Except from the vegetation in the foreground, this view point on the top of a little tunnel 9 kilometres south of Oslo, would have been a perfect place to photographe trains.
