Norwegian State Railways class El 18.2256 hauls an intercity train through the village of Ås 30 kilometres south of Oslo in September 2002. Having been a “jack of all trades”, this class is seen in front of both regional-, intercity- and express trains, even if Emus of different classes tend to be more and more dominant. In the intercity network around Oslo, for instance, Emus of class 70 and 73B are responsible for about 70% of the service.

The Norwegian intercity network is rather small; limited to the connections Skien-Oslo-Lillehammer (374 kilometres) and Oslo-Halden (137 kilometres). In general, Emus of class 70 and 73B are used in the service, but some trains hauled by locomotives are also in service, especially in the rush hour. This picture shows the 15.30 departure from Oslo to Halden, as it passes Langhus on a beautiful day in July 2002. The train are hauled by NSB class El 18.2258.
