The Norwegian GM Group were founded in 1989 around the prototype engine G12 7707, which was saved by a fistful of enthusiasts three years earlier. Since then, the group has been operating charter trains on the Norwegian network, and on this picture we see a special on the eastern part of the Bergen Line in September 2002. Di 3.616 is in front, and behind her G12 7707 can be observed – repainted in her original colour scheme.

Heavy diesel engines on the Norwegian network south of Oslo are quite seldom, but on Monday 28.04.03, Di 3.616 of the GM Group hauled a special train between Oslo and Halden. The train is seen at Hauketo 9 kilometres south of Oslo.

NSB Di 3a 602. Built 1954 by Nohab/GM, tested in Norway as Nohab 2246, 1956 taken over by NSB as Di 3a 602. Regular service until 1995, since 1997 in the museum. In its active time the locomotive has covered over 7 million kilometers. 32 locomotives of class Di 3a were built 1954 to 1969. Co'Co', length 18.6 m, 102 t, 105 km/h, 1305 kW. NSB Di 3a 602. It is preserved in the demonstrator livery as built. Though NSB logos were applied on both ends, no number was assigned until the locomotive was officially taken over. Norsk jernbanemuseum, Hamar, 2023-07-18. |
NSB Di 3a 602. Initially these locomotives operated on the Bergen, Dovre and Nordland lines, replacing steam locomotives. After the electrification of the Bergen and Dovre lines and the delivery of more powerful Di 4 for the Nordland line, Di 3 continued to be used on secondary lines until around 2000 when many of them were sold to other railways. A nice surprise. Normally there are no more freights with Di3's in Norway
after 10.06.2000, but there is a plan and here is the reality. It's still
a knotty problem to find the replacement for the fantastic reliable Di3's
- and it means that sometimes these good old locos are again in the limelight
for some scheduled runs, but in the near future they will gone for good.

Two masterpieces of the world's engineers: the NoHAB-GM and the Kylling
bru at Raumabanen (Dombås-Åndalsnes). The Di3.623
does the same brilliant performance nowadays as it did 40 years ago and the Kylling bru is still so beautiful as it was in 1922 when it was ready. This view is the same since 1959 but will be no more available after 1.10.2000. Old bridge, new train - will they go well with each other? One thing is (almost) sure: the new BM93 DMUs (Talbot Talent) will
be the main motive power for personal trains of this line after the date
above. This legendary loco-type will say goodbye also in Norway this year.

One of the three big stonebridges of the Raumabanen (Dombås-Åndalsnes):
the Stuguflåten bru near Bjorli. This line is a very hard one for
the motive power with steeps over 2%. The NoHABs does a brilliant job here
since more than 40 years.

The swan-song of a legendary loco-type in Norway: the Di3.623 on the 75
years old Raumabanen (Dombås-Åndalsnes). The new BM93 DMUs
(Talbot Talent) will be the main motive power for personal trains of this
line after 1.10.2000. After this date there will be no more Di3's in normal
duty at the NSB - but after the experiences with the Di6's and newly with
the Singnature trainsets maybe there is still a slight chance for the fans
to hear the majestic GM-sound sometimes if nothing goes as expected...
