Because the old metrostations in Amsterdam are very unsafe due to the dark concrete construction the plan existed to renovate all stations. As a pilot the most busiest station on line 53, "Ganzenhoef" was renovated in a new glass livery. The station is very nice to see and a large improvement because when it's raining you stay dry.
However, the renovation was a little bit too expensive so all the other stations on the old line will get a more basic renovation. The photo was taken on july 1st, 2004. © 2004, Dennis van Leuverden. |
The renovated Ganzenhoef station seen from a larger distance. Notice that there are not any pillars in the center to support the roof construction. This was a special demand in the design process.

This is one of the old-style metrostations with very much concrete which makes it very unsafe. When it gets darker in the evening you cannot oversee the whole station and there is very little light. This is the Diemen-Zuid station which is situated next to the corresponding railway station.
