In the weekend of 18th and 19th March 2006 no trains could run on the Den Haag Centraal - Gouda line due to engineering works. The 'Noord-Oost' intercity services (from Den Haag to Leeuwarden / Groningen and Enschede) were diverted via Schiedam and Gouda and only ran between Den Haag Centraal and Utrecht, where passengers had to change to regular trains.
