Universal electric locomotive Ae3/5 10217 was built by SAAS in 1926 as part of a class of 26 locomotives. It mainly operated regional trains in western Switzerland until 1982. This was so succesful that the trains were soon too small and had to be replaced by locomotive-hauled trains. From then the motor cars were mainly used for excursions.
