Steam Locomotive 740-423, from a Class of 1'D (2-8-0 Consolidation) train locomotives, was performing short runs in and out the turntable at the Depot. The Locomotive was unusally coupled with a tender from locomotive 685-386, creating an hybrid compososition.
FS Class 740 were designed as simple expansion and superheated version of the earlier FS Class 730.
The first locomotive was built in 1911 and construction continued (albeit with a long interruption due to the WWI) until the late 1923. In total 470 machines were buil, making Class 740 the most numerous locomotive to be built for the FS.

Beautiful restored FS "Ferrovie dello Stato" steam locomotive 744-118, from a Class of 1'D (2-8-0 Consolidation) train locomotives.
The 744-118, with a Caprotti valve gear, was initially preserved at the national Railway Museum in Naples.
It was later transferred to Pistoia where it was restored to working condition.
Class 744 derived from the earlier Class 745 locomotives, with which shared the boiler and the wheelbase.
Designed fro mixed traffic working, Class 744 was mainly allocated to Southern Italy and the machines were withdrawn from service during the '70s.

Class 835, a class of C (0-6-0 OT) light machines, was the standard steam shunter of teh FS. In all 370 machines were built between 1908 and 1922.
Class 835 soldiered on until the end of regular steam services in Italy, with at least 30 locos still active in tenearly '80s.

Beautiful restored FS "Ferrovie dello Stato" steam locomotive 746-038, from a Class of 1'D1' (2-8-2 Mikado) train locomotives.
Long preserved in the FS workshop of Verona, the machine has been recently moved to Pistoia to await a possible restoration in working condition.
Class 746 wre the biggest locomotives ever built for the FS, even though not the fastets, which was Class 691.
40 locomotives Class 746 were ordered to Ernesto Breda, which produced them from 1922, followed by 10 more machines in 1926.
Class 746 initially operated along the Milan-Bologna-Florence-Rome-Naples main line. When main lines were mainly electrified, Class 746 were transferred to the Adriatic coast and in Sicily, to be retired by 1967.

Class 981, a class of C (0-6 OT) steam locotender, is was built for the cog wheels Paola-Cosenza line in Calabra, Southern Italy.
8 machines were buil during 1922 and used until 1987. 4 Machines are still preserved.

Aln 556 was a class of diesel railcar built in 192 examples between 1937 and 1939 as evolution of the previour Class Aln 56.
Two of them are preserved, including Aln 556-2331 that is used for historical trains.

The Aln 772 (Automotrice leggera a nafta - Light diesel motor car) series was built for the FS, Italian Railways, between the 30s and the 50s in not less than 327 pieces. The last was retired during 1981.
Preserved Aln 772-3265 is still used for historical trains.

The FS Class D.342 was an experimental class of Diesel loco built in 1957-1959 to test hydraulic transmission.
FS later choose Diesel Electric configuration for the following Classes of diesel locos.
D.342-4010 of Ansaldo construction is preserved and used to run historical trains.
