Talgo_IIb_mfc1.jpg (163374 bytes)

Talgo II built 1949 by American Car Foundry, in service 1950 to 1972. This was an unidirectional train of elements of six meters. The wheels were fixed to the end of each body, the unit had to be turned around at the end of each run. The first coach behind the locomotive was a baggage car with doors, its front end supported by the rear end of the locomotive. The four coaches preserved at Vilanova have no recognizable numbers. Behind the baggage car we see two passenger coaches (one first class with four rows of seats, one second class with five rows of seats) and an observation car. I found a list of coaches at listadotren, though it leaves some questions open.

Talgo II built 1949 by American Car Foundry, in service 1950 to 1972. Detail of the wheels. Like all Talgo generations it has individual wheels with no connecting axle. In the Talgo I and II these were not steered, so the train could only go in one direction.

Talgo II built 1949 by American Car Foundry, in service 1950 to 1972. Side view of the observation car. The seating cars had the same window arrangement, certainly offering a great view outside. The Talgo II and III were riveted from corrugated aluminium sheet metal, similar to the way old aircraft were built. In the Talgo Pendular and subsequent generations the bodies are welded of extruded aluminium profiles.
