Steam locomotive 131-428. Part of a series of 293 (Japanese class
C 12) built in Japan from 1932 to 1947 for 1067 mm. During the second
world war 66 locomotives went to China, 60 of which were regauged for
1000 mm and (partly?) brought to North Vietnam in 1955. Operation of
the last locomotive lasted until 2002. 1'C1', 1400 mm driving wheels,
50 t total service weight, 32 t weight on driving wheels, maximum
axle load 11 t, two cylinders, length 11350 mm. As it has no cogwheel
drive it was not used on the line Thap Cham - Da Lat when it was in
full operation. In its active time it operated from Ha Noi to Lao Cai -
Kunming and to Hai Phong.
People love to pose on it for photos.
