SNCFT - Tunisia Metlaoui in western Tunisia is the place where wagons with phosphate ore are shunted into long trains. There is a depot, but the roundhouse was empty and the turntable in front seemed to be out of service. In front of the roundhouse are locomotives 060-DH-222 (left) and 060-DN-314 (right). The coaches in the back are coaches normally used for Tunis commuter trains. Metlaoui, 25-10-2006 Digital photo by Marco van Uden |
SNCFT - Tunisia This indicator might be used to show the delay of the trains coming from Tunis. At this moment there are actually 4 trains a day, the 21.25 arrival is missing. Gabes, 27-10-2006 Digital photo by Marco van Uden |
SNCFT - Tunisia Until a few years ago all trains from Tunis to the south had to run through Sousse, including some street running over a very busy square. But now a bypass has been built around Sousse and it is no longer possible to run trains between Sousse Gare and Sousse Bab-el-Jedid. In the picture you see the end of the track from Sousse Gare, while the track from Sousse Bab-el-Jedid (the building in the back of the picture) runs to the left towards the harbour.
