My trip to Tunisia |
SNCFT - Tunisia Diesel locomotives class 040-DK are mainly used for light passenger trains. Only two (out of 20) are standard gauge, these are used on Tunis-Bizerte. In the picture standard gauge 040-DK-82 runs around its train. Bizerte, 30-10-2006 Digital photo by Marco van Uden |
SNCFT - Tunisia Standard gauge diesel locomotive 040-DK-82 departs with the afternoon passenger train from Bizerte towards Tunis. Bizerte, 30-10-2006 Digital photo by Marco van Uden |
SNCFT - Tunisia The passenger service on the Tunis-Bizerte line (3 train pairs a day) was run by a motor car and two coaches, and a locomotive-hauled train. 040-DK-82 is ready to depart with the afternoon passenger train. Tunis, 30-10-2006 Digital photo by Marco van Uden |
SNCFT - Tunisia The only real commuter service around Tunis is provided on the line Tunis-Borj Cédria, on which a service is provided every 20 minutes. These push-pull trains are hauled or pushed by narrow gauge locomotives of class 040-DK. In the picture 040-DK-95 is ready to depart with another train towards Borj Cédria. SNCFT - Tunisia As there are only 6 trainsets available (I've seen 4 in service) for the "Métro léger du Sahel" Sousse-Monastir-Mahdia, there are also diesel-hauled trains on this line. This is actually a Tunis commuter push-pull train with locomotive 040-DK-99. Mahdia, 23-10-2006 Digital photo by Marco van Uden |
SNCFT - Tunisia 20 locomotives of class 040-DK were built by MLW (Canada) from 1976. They are used for light passenger trains, like on Tunis-Bizerte (standard gauge, 2 locomotives) and Tunis-Borj Cédria. But they also help out on the "Métro léger du Sahel" Sousse-Monastir-Mahdia. Note the very new 25kV catenary! Mahdia, 23-10-2006 Digital photo by Marco van Uden |
SNCFT - Tunisia In Monastir the trains of the "Métro léger du Sahel" have to change direction. But although advertised as through trains, I had to change both times at Monastir on my Sousse-Monastir-Mahdia return trip. 040-DK-99 has just arrrived from Mahdia in Monastir. An electric unit will shortly arrive for the rest of the trip to Sousse. Monastir, 23-10-2006 Digital photo by Marco van Uden |
