India_BG_XD 22455, 22466 The Southern Railway broad gauge engine shed at Bangalore Cantonment was looking a bit worse for wear on 30 November 1979. Inside were four class XD 2-8-2, the two nearest the camera being 22455 and 22466. India_BG_XD 22459 Madras A nicely side-lit portrait of 2-8-2 XD 22459 at Madras Basin Bridge depot on 1 December 1979. This type was the first 2-8-2 built for Indian Railways with 78 units being delivered between 1927 and the beginning of WW2. A further 116 engines followed that conflict, 1945 – 1948.
