Indian Railways WCG1 (originally Great Indian Peninsular Railway EA/1) No. 4502 "Sir Leslie Wilson". The "Indian Crocodile" or "Khekda" was delivered from 1928 by SLM (10 units), Vulcan Foundry and Metropolitan Vickers (31 units), derived from the Swiss Be 6/8 III series, but with a longer body and no pilot wheelsets. The long steep line from Bombay/Mumbai to Poona/Pune was difficult to operate with steam locomotives, so it was electrified early (1500 V DC) and the WCG1 were developed for freight trains on that line. Later used as bankers on Karjat - Lonavla and until 1992 for heavy shunting. 1939 kW, 72.5 km/h. Unfortunately this one is not in its best state any more, not sure if any others survive. Indian Railways WCG1 (originally Great Indian Peninsular Railway EA/1) No. 4502 "Sir Leslie Wilson". Originally it had two pantographs. The black colour is (more or less) the original appearance, later they were repainted brown with a yellow stripe and finally white and blue with striped front. National Rail Museum, New Delhi, 2012-12-07.
