Indian Railways diesel locomotive WDG1 No. 17000. These were
the first large series of mainline diesel locomotives in
India, 100 units delivered 1957 to 1959 starting to replace
steam traction. The Alco type DL500 (also exported to Argentina,
Australia, Greece, Pakistan, Peru and Spain) was a variant of
the American FA series but with three-axle bogies (Co'Co' wheel
arrangement), 1454 kW, 104 km/h. Used for both freight and
express trains, gradually went out of service during the 1990s.
