CFR border station Falciu, seen from the local train to Barlad. Only one standard gauge track and two broad gauge tracks are still in use, all the rest is disused and the ticket office closed. The CFM engine is just shunting around the single coach. This only train across the border to Moldova was running on Fridays and Saturdays only at the time of travelling. Correct information about these cross border trains is very rare, so check timetables very carefully (if timetables are posted anyway). You might want to call the station master of the station Prut 2 or Prut 1 (Moldova) in order to get the right timetable (and not station masters of other stations in Moldova). Crossing the border here with a German passport was no problem at all. 29.8.2009 Martin P. |
