The 2M62U is used today on heavy traffic on main lines with freight trains up to 5000 tons. 2M62U are freight locomotives, when required they can be used in passenger train service, with speeds up to 100 km/hr. Modernized 2M62U (with bigger fuel tanks, modern bogies, new electrical equipment and engine) came to Lithuania Railways in 1988.
Lithuanian Railways company own 6 locomotives 2M62U they are based only in Vilnius locomotive shop.
