06/05/2023: Open day at Pistoia DORS (Deposito Officina Rotabili Storici - Depot and repair shop for Historical rolling stocks), managed by "Fondazione FS". Fondazione FS Italiane looks after and manages the Italian State Railways’ vast historic heritage: it oversees a fleet of over 400 pieces of historic rolling stock, around 200 of which are in full working order. It also oversees the archives and libraries, both the Pietrarsa and the Trieste Campo Marzio Museums as well as some dedicated Depots (like Pistoia DORS). Locotender 940-026 stabled outside at Pistoia. Class 940, a class of 1'D1' (2-8-2) steam locotender, derived from Class 740 tender locomotives. Class 940 was designed for the Appennine mountain lines, expecially for the Rome-Sulmona-Pescara line, and important coast-to-coast railway that presented steep gradients up to 2,7 %. 50 Class 940 were buil from 1922 to 1924.
