19/03/2023: Open day at La Spezia Migliarina DORS (Deposito Officina Rotabili Storici - Depot and repair shop for Historical rolling stocks), managed by Fondazione FS.
Fondazione FS Italiane looks after and manages the Italian State Railways vast historic heritage: it oversees a fleet of over 400 pieces of historic rolling stock, around 200 of which are in full working order.
It also oversees the archives and libraries, both the Pietrarsa and the Trieste Campo Marzio Museums as well as some dedicated Depots (like La Spezia Migliarina DORS).
La Spezia Migliarina DORS is mainly devoted to Electric Locomotives.
FS (Ferrovie dello Stato - Italian State Railways, now Trenitalia) classic Bo'-Bo'-Bo' Electric loco E.626-185 in classic "Castano e Isabella" color scheme.
The FS E.625 and E.626 are two classes of Italian electric locomotives produced for the Ferrovie dello Stato.
They were introduced in the course of the 1920s and remained in service until the 1990s. The E.626 was the first locomotive fed by 3,000 V DC overhead line in Italy.
In 1930-1938 a record number of 448 units in three series was built, while in 1939 the last series, with low gear ratio, was shipped (they were later standardized).
The new E636 of the 1940s initially shared the motors and some of the electro-mechanical devices with the E.626.

brute-looking old electrics.
