19/03/2023: Open day at La Spezia Migliarina DORS (Deposito Officina Rotabili Storici - Depot and repair shop for Historical rolling stocks), managed by Fondazione FS. Fondazione FS Italiane looks after and manages the Italian State Railways vast historic heritage: it oversees a fleet of over 400 pieces of historic rolling stock, around 200 of which are in full working order. It also oversees the archives and libraries, both the Pietrarsa and the Trieste Campo Marzio Museums as well as some dedicated Depots (like La Spezia Migliarina DORS). La Spezia Migliarina DORS is mainly devoted to Electric Locomotives. FS (Ferrovie dello Stato - Italian State Railways, now Trenitalia) Electric loco E.454-001. Class E.454 was a small series of 3 prototypes + 2 prototypes Class E.453 for Freight trains of single cab electric locos built during the late '80s. After years of extensive trials during the early '90s, the prototypes were retired and no other locos were built because of the obsolete electric scheme. The intended role for the E.454 was fulfilled by the modern single cab E.464 locos based on three-phases asynchronous electric motors (717 locomotives currently in service, the E.464 is the largest class in use by Trenitalia and also the most numerous Italian locomotive class ever in service).
