An old ETR220 recovered in the station of Firenze Rifredi on 22/8/96 .
Since at Firenze resides the engineering office (servizio Materiale e Trazione) of FS for Locos and Emu most of new engines pass throught the Firenze Depot. This is an exception since this is an old (1937) train to be demolished or preseved (althought some of its companions still are on regular service with IC trains on Roma-Perugia and Ancona-Roma (these was the first stock in Italy to have climatisation)
Notice how the captation arm is on the front on the train, instead than on the back, as usual. This is a peculiarity ot this series of ETR since when they go in service in 1937 they was the first one to run at speeds above 140, up to 200.
Since the current captation is one of the hardest thing at high speed, the captation had to be continuously monitored by the drives. Since at that time was not in use small TV cameras, the monitoring was made by a small mirror on top on the cabin.
Confront with the new ETR500 that have cameras to control the aerial wire.
