A FS class E444 stops at Ferrara with Ic547 "Palladio" from Venezia Santa Lucia to Roma Termini on a foggy morning in Autumn 1988.
Note the thin red stripe at the bottom of the body on the cars: at that time FS didn't have enough UIC-Z 2nd class coaches to equip all IC trains, so a lot of UIC-X coaches were fitted for 200 kph speed, with hydraulic absorbers between body and bogies and window baffles against aerodynamic turbulences inside the compartments, and marked with a red sripe on the lower part of the body. The section from Reggio Calabria of overnight 1940 "Treno del Sole" to Torino Porta Nuova, composed of only one UIC-X couchette pulled by a FS class E656, is ready to depart from Reggio Calabria Centrale in July 1990.
