LBR (Lartigue Monorail) - Ireland
The Lartigue Monorail System was a very special type of railway. It was only operational in a very few places in France, and as the Listowel-Ballybunion Railway (1888-1924) in Ireland. A short strech has been reconstructed in Listowel, with a diesel locomotive (looking like a steam engine) and two passenger coaches.
Diesel locomotive LBR 4 before departure. The original steam locomotives had two kettles on both sides of the monorail.

Switches on this monorail are quite complicated and look like turntables. LBR4 runs around its train before pushing it back to the platform at the museum building.

The museum is located in the old (normal, narrow gauge railway) goods shed at Listowel. Passengers from Limerick and Tralee changed in Listowel to the monorail train to Ballybunion at the coast.

Passenger cars with cabins on both sides of the monorail. Balancing the weight in the cars is very important for a smooth ride.
