NIR/Translink 8111-Class. 111 prepares to buffer up to the stock of the 09:40 arrival from Dublin Connolly at Belfast Great Victoria Street on thursday 5th august 1999 in order to shunt the stock out of the station to release the main train loco, IE 080, which is at the other end of the train. Once released, NIR 111 will then shunt the stock back into the station, uncouple, and then allow IE 080 to couple up to the coaches and work back as the 12:30 Belfast GVS - Dublin Connolly service. Normally all cross border expresses run to Belfast Central station but due to essential engineering work between Central Junction and Belfast Central, all services from Portadown, Lisburn, Londonderry and the cross border expresses were being terminated at Belfast GVS, a dead end station with no run round facilities - thus the need for the above manouvre especially since the stock had no driving trailer for push-pull operation.
