The IE 201 class was built by General Motors at their London,
Ontario plant with delivery to IE starting in July 1994. With a
3200hp engine, they are the most powerful locomotives ever to
have operated in Ireland. NIR have also purchased the same
loco for their cross-border services.

The 201 Class was delivered in 1994-5 and consists of 34 locomotives. Two are owned by NIR, the remainder by IE. Eleven of the class, including the two NIR locos, are fitted for push-pull working with new French-built stock for the inter-capital "Enterprise" service. Non-fitted 203 is seen at the head of a passenger train at Dublin Connolly station. The entire class is named after rivers; 203 is "ABHAINN NA COIRIBE - RIVER CORRIB"
