Budapest Ferenciek tére station sign
This is the entry to the Ferenciek tére M3 Metro station. At this station I bought my first Napijegy (day pass until the last train/bus/tram) for approx HUF 500. Ferenciek tére is a deep tunnel station similar to Déak Tér. As such, from the ticket counter to the platform is by escalators (I am not certain if elevator access has been added, since February 2006). Budapest Vörösmarty tér station sign
This is the station sign for the southwestern terminus of the Budapest Metro line 1, also known as the Földalatti. This sign shows the entry to the platforms for trains headed to Mexikói út. The Földalatti operates a few meters below the street surface all the way to Mexikói út, except for a short section east of the Mexikói út for trains to turn around and its own depot. Nearby is the Vigadó which was demolished and is in the process of being rebuilt (as of February 2006 which was my following visit). This is a the entry to the Metro M1 Vörösmarty tér station to Mexikói út. Budapest Hösök tér M1 station
This is the Heroes Square just north of the Hösök tér M1 station. The Földalatti was built mostly shallow under the street level and has no escalators or elevators from the street to the station platform. Taken Saturday 1 August1998 © 1998, 2006 Josh Hanz (josh_hanz@hotmail.com) |

Budapest's first metro line M1, opened 1896, was built by the "cut and cover" method and since it is above a water channel, has very limited vertical space. The stations have separate entrance stairs for each direction. Station Vörösmarty utca. 2020-02-01. |

Sorry for the bad quality, but it was very dark down there, so it was hard to make good pictures.

An advertissement for a film seen in Kossuth Tér Metro station
In many metro stations, advertissements for movies, soft drinks, food (including "Pöttyös" dots), cars and many other things can be seen. For instance this is an ad for a recently playing movie. If you notice the actor second from left, Csányi Sándor, he played a ticket inspector in a previous film "Kontroll", which took place using the Budapest Metro as part of the "set" - in the film the actual city name is renamed.
