The Electric Railroad Athens-Piraeus (ISAP, http://www.isap.gr ) is undergoing a massive
station reconstruction program since 2002. The plan is to renovate drastically each station
in the 26 km route, which join the Northern Athens to the seaport of Piraeus, before the
2004 Olympic Games.
A typical scene from the New Iraklion station shows the right platform demolished, while a train nears the old platform, going south towards Piraeus. The third-rail carries 750 Volts DC.

The Electric Railways Athens-Piraeus (ISAP) embarket into a very
ambitious program of rebuilding all their stations in time for
the 2004 Athens Olympics.
Monastiraki station was one of the last to get completed. The view is as you pass the ticket machines, looking south towards Piraeus. First the left platform of the station was rebuilt, then the right one. The trains bypassed the station towards the one or the other direction, depending on the state of reconstruction. Incidentally, the train in the Photo is the only one with air-conditioning in the ISAP rolling stock, and it was built as a prototype (the others, unfortunately, get very hot in Athens summer). Above the rails one can see a very popular cafeteria, which is the start of a very nice walk besides the line and near various ancient ruins towards the station of Thisseio.

In 1984/58 the ISAP got 15 three cars EMU and 15 two-cars EMU from MAN and Siemens.
Nowadays the 15 two-cars EMU were rebuilt in 10 three-cars-EMUs, because all trains
of ISAP are with 6 waggons.
In 1994 a Greek Shipyard made in licence ten new, five parts EMUs, simulary to
the MAN of 1984. The only different is the window. The german ones have
smaller, the greek windows like rail-coaches.
Station Attikis - Oktober 2003 Photo: Dimitrios Koffas (trena@gmx.de) |

ISAP's EMU (made by MAN) at Piraeus station. The line was under reconstruction between Monastiraki and Attiki station, so theese trains ran between Piraeus and Monastiraki.
Az ISAP MAN gyátmányú metrószerelvénye Piraeus végállomáson.

ISAP's EMU (made by MAN) between Thision and Monastiraki on line 1. Because of the reconstruction the trains could only use one track between these two stops, plus the line was closed between Monastiraki and Attiki.
