The Electric Railways Athens-Piraeus (ISAP) embarket into a very
ambitious program of rebuilding all their stations in time for
the 2004 Athens Olympics.
Seen here is the Nea Ionia rebuilt station as one of the latest Siemens-built electric trains enters from Kifisia. In the background one can discern an old trainset parked as a reserve between the up and down lines.

For the needs of the Olympic Games the ISAP ordered 20 new, six-parts EMUs.
It based on the MAN EMUs from 1984 with some little changes. There are made
in licence from Siemens/ADtranz at the Hellenic Shipyards in Greece. In summer
2002 the ISAP got the first units of this order, the last is expected at the
end of the year 2003.
Station Attikis - Juni 2003 Photo: Dimitrios Koffas (trena@gmx.de) |
ISAP's EMU (assembled by Hellenic Shipyards S.A. using ADtranz-Siemens design and mechanical parts) at Attiki station. The line was under reconstruction between Monastiraki and Attiki stations. The trains ran between Attiki and Kifissia on this part of the line.
