34067 'Tangmere' is steaming nicely as she makes her way towards Folkestone West carrying the insignia of the Golden Arrow. The
reasons for this is that this steam special is soon to travel down the short branch to Folkestone Harbour, which in the past
would have been used by this famous train, and is now down for closure. However quite when this will happen is not clear so
this may not turn out to be the very last train to use it. The date of this special though to mark the event is the 27th January 2007.

34067 'Tangmere' makes its way across the viaduct at Folkestone Harbour on what could be the
last train to travel the branch that opened in 1849 and was later used by the Golden Arrow.
The VSOE has in recent times been using the station for passengers who are then put on coaches for their journey
by Shuttle through the Channel Tunnel. This very limited use is due to end but quite when is not that clear. The last
cross Channel services from Folkestone stopped in the early 1990's, the White Cliffs of the nearby larger
Port of Dover being being clearly visible in this picture taken on the 27th January 2007.

Now here is something different at Stratford E.London! Unrebuilt Battle of Britain Class 34067 'Tangmere' is smoking
nicely as it takes its Norwich Bound charter through the station on September 18th 2004 making a very
unusual sight for this location.

34067 Tangmere is the first run Unrebuilt Bulleid Pacific to recreate the Golden Arrow Pullman (the Express train of the 1930's from London to Paris (via Boat at Dover), in 20 years. Running through Brixton at full power, the 73 (73136) was provided as security as 34067 has had problems in it's first few runs. Notice the British / French Flags, and the "Arrow" added below the name plate on the side as well as Front "Golden Arrow" headboard.

Bristol_steam_Tangmere: Britain is unique in that virtually every week in the year sees one or more high-speed, long-distance, steam-hauled trains running on its main lines. This is especially so in summer where at Bristol in particular, summer Sundays often see one, sometimes two, trains depart within minutes of each other. Here are three typical Sundays in August 2015.
Bulleid Pacific 34067 "Tangmere" departs from Bristol Temple Meads (TM) with the "Royal Duchy" train, Bristol – Par and return, on 3 August.

A bonus ! Half an hour after the Public edition of the South West Trains "Seaside Slammer" railtour had passed through, unrebuilt Battle of Britain class 4-6-2 no. 34067 "Tangmere" steamed along the down local line on the return "Royal Wessex" to Weymouth. Photo by Mark Ziemba, scan by Fuji. |
For most of the summer of 2004, the very heavy, 13-coach luxury "Orient Express"
service was hauled by ex-Southern Railway Battle of Britain Class 4-6-2 34067
Tangmere. Despite their reputation for being very "slippery" locomotives, this
example of Mr Bulleid's very distinct design handled its regular task with ease –
albeit at some cost in coal consumption! Tangmere is seen here at speed, passing
Keynsham near Bristol with the outward working of the "Orient Express". 9 June
2004.

A hot and sultry afternoon sees Battle of Britain 4-6-2 34067 Tangmere breasting the
summit at Stowell, after the long climb from Sherborne on the former London &
South Western Railway main line. The Bulleid Pacific was working a return train
from Yeovil to London. 7 July 2004.

This is the water stop at Shalford before setting off on the best part of
run where the loco...34067 Tangmere...will have to work hard up gradient
to get up speed. The date is May 12th 2005 and we are shortly to rejoin
'The Downsman' operated by Hertfordshire Rail Tours on its return to London
Victoria making a total journey of just over 80 miles.

34067 is one of our favourite steamers being the original streamlined version of a
classic Southern loco. Not only that but when travelling behind this engine
you know for sure you are on a steam train with clouds of smoke and plenty of that
special whiff steam engines produce. For taking you back to the past
and sheer atmosphere it was SUPERB. After approaching 40 years
since 'kettles' were retired by BR who would have thought then that you could still enjoy a run
like this on the main line well into the 21st century. BRILLIANT.....LONG MAY IT LAST!
The date is 12th May 2005 at Shalford.
