Looking south from the northern end of the sole operational platform at Shanklin on the Isle of Wight, the southern terminus of the Island Line, the line originally extended further south to Ventnor but was curtailed in the 1950s. Island Line Class 483 (ex-London Underground 1938 stock) EMU 483006 at Shanklin is between services to and from Ryde Pier Head.

The southern end of Shanklin station on the Isle of Wight, currently the southern terminus of the Island Line. The line originally extended further south to Ventnor Town station, but this was curtailed in the 1950s. I beleive that most of the original trackbed is still available but if there is any active call for its reinstatement they don't appear to have a significant Internet presence.

Shanklin Station is now the southern terminus on the Isle of Wight's Island Line. Note that despite privatisation the
BR 'Double Arrows' remain as this is the recognised symbol for a 'mainline station'.
