The main passenger concourse at London Waterloo station, looking towards the lower-numbered platforms from opposite the entrance to platform 18. The canopy on the right shades one of several banks of LCD screens used to show depature information. The old clacker boards that used to perform this function are still in place and are visible on the extreme right of the image below the large "CHICAGO" advert, althoguh they are no longer in use.

The departures screens for London Waterloo East on the pedestrian bridge between Waterloo East and Waterloo (variously referred to as Waterloo Main and Waterloo Mainline on signs at Waterloo East). To prevent confusion between the main Waterloo station and those at Waterloo East, the platforms at the latter are lettered A, B, C and D rather than numbered as is conventional. Indeed, I'm not aware of any other station using letters as the primary platform designator, although giving letters to portions of platforms (e.g. 4A and 4B) is not uncommon.
