Bristol Parkway, UK - Station Concourse
This is the rather stylish clock on the wall in the main concourse at Bristol Parkway. This new station replaces a very dreary 1960s station on the same site which was completely unsuitable as an intercity station, and only ever intended as a stop-gap. The new station has a waiting room upstairs with views across the northern suburbs and Filton (rail) Junctions, a Cafe and a shop. Downstairs there is a ticket office, travel interchange information for both rail and bus services (including a departure board for local bus services), and toilet facilities. There is also a new multi-storey car park attached to the station. Photo by Timothy Vince (le_random@yahoo.co.uk) |
Summary departure board on the eastbound platform at Bristol Parkway, UK
The colour scheme used by First Great Western on their departure boards is White on dark green, which is not always very readable in strong sunlight - white on navy blue or black would be better. Photo by Timothy Vince (le_random@yahoo.co.uk) |
Two EWS Class 67 locomotives haul a mixed freight eastbound through Bristol Parkway. Leading is Royal Train liveried 67006 Royal Sovereign; 67015 in standard EWS Maroon/Gold livery is behind.

A view of Bristol Parkway railway station viewed from the unnamed bridge leading off Hambrook Lane, about a third of a mile east of the station. A First Great Western HST is at the westbound platform. The pltaforms in the right midground are for the now disused Royal Mail depot, constructed at great expense very shortly before the end of mail on rail.

Looking east from about ¾ of the way along platform 2 and Bristol Parkway. Long disused mail vans stand on sidings on the rights, while just beyond the station on the left is the major Royal Mail sorting depot that was built only about 18 months before the end of mail on the railways.

Looking east from from the eastern end of platform 2 and Bristol Parkway at the arched bridge that carries an apparently unnamed dead-end spur of Hambrook Lane over the rialway. I suspect that there is a through route for pedesitrians between the two housing estates, but I don't know.

Looking west from the eastern end of Platform 2 at Bristol Parkway station at the signals at the western end. The left-most signal is an exit signal from the sidings behind platform 2. The middle one is for trains heading west from platform 2 - here shown with a double yellow aspect and the horizontal junction indicator showing a route is set for the next train to head towards Bristol Temple Meads.
