The different styles of door opening buttons that are in use on Tyne and Wear Metro cars. From left to right these are the protype, standard and refurbished types. The standard door buttons require a significant pressure to be exerted to open the doors. It has been known for passengers to have been conveyed beyond their intended destination as they have been unable to get the doors to open.

The view through the rather grubby front window of Tyne and Wear Metro train 4089 as it approaches Heworth station with a Yellow Line service to South Hylton. I think the train on the opposite platform is number 4028 bound for St James via the coast.

The view through the rather grubby front window of Tyne and Wear Metro train 4089 as it arrives into South Gosforth station with a southbound Yellow line service to Sunderland and South Hylton via Newcaslte. This is the most northerly station served by both lines - train 4043 standing at platform 2 is a northbound Green line service to Newcastle Airport. The attractive footbridge was saved when the original 1864 station was demolished to make way for the Metro Control Centre - the building overhanging platform 2.

The view through the rather grubby front window of Tyne and Wear Metro train 4089 as it arrives into South Gosforth station with a southbound Yellow line service to Sunderland and South Hylton via Newcaslte. The train to the right is number 4043 on a Green line service to the Airport. The unusual rectangular pieces of metal suspended below the footbridge are shielding the 1500 volts DC overhead wires from people/objects thrown off the bridge.

The view through the rather grubby front window of Tyne and Wear Metro train 4089 as it arrives into West Jesmond station with a Yellow line service to South Hylton. The train at the opposite platform is number 4078 en route to St James via the coast.

The view through the rather grubby front window of Tyne and Wear Metro train 4089 on a Yellow line service towards Sunderland and Sout Hylton. The two 1500 volts DC electrified tracks on the right are the Metro tracks while the un-electrified rails to the left are Network Rail metals. The change in ballast colour denotes the boundary between the two companies. The approaching train is number 4082 on a Green line service to Newcastle Airport.

The drivers desk of a Tyne and Wear Metro train at St James station. The speedometer in the centre of the desk is calibrated only in km/h and goes up to 100 km/h, although the highest linespeed on the system is 80km/h I believe.
