THE FIRST LONDON UNDERGROUND ROUNDEL IS 100 YEARS OLD. In 1908 the companies operating London's Underground trains agreed to have just one symbol to represent all the different lines. The famous iconic Roundel we know today however did not start to appear until the early 1920s. Quite unusual this roundel at Holborn on the Central Line having a white outline to help it stand out. This is looking up the first escalator at Holborn Station that brings you to the Cenral Line level...a second escalator to the left as you look takes you down still further to the Piccadilly Line making it one of the deapest stations on the London Underground.
