HISTORY. There is clearly a very marked difference in the height of 'overground' Underground stock and those designed for the deep tunnels. The first Underground trains ran not much below street level and adopted the cut and cover approach with large tunnels. This is reflected in the size of the Metropolitan Line train on the left. On the right the Piccadilly Line train spends much of its journey well underground and is subsequently smaller. The two were Pictured at Rayners Lane on the 10th June 2007.

London Transport pre 1938 tube stock heading east on a Piccadilly line train to Cockfosters passing Turnham Green station in the early 60s. In those days the Piccadilly Line ran non-stop from Hammersmith to ActonTown except for a few early and late Sunday services which stopped at Turnham Green.

One of the prototype trains for the new 1959 tubestock. The 1959 and the 1962 stock operated both the Piccadilly and Central lines when new with some passing to the Northern after new stock was delivered for the Piccadilly line Heathrow extension. The 5 lights were only fitted to the prototypes, the production sets all had just 2 lights. The train is passing Ravenscourt Park with an eastbound Piccadilly line service.
